EdgeKidz Volunteers

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 NIV

CM Team Roles

There are many different ways for adults and teens to serve with children, particularly on Sunday mornings, where the need is greatest. We invite you to skim the list and then go back to read in detail the areas that have caught your attention. Children are one of our most precious blessings at Edgewood and we thank God for the opportunities we have to join them on their journey of relationship with Jesus.

Here is a listing of roles:

Welcome Team

  • Check-in Leader: This person checks in children using a simple computer program. The program prints the child’s name tag and a corresponding label for the parent(s).

  • Runner: This can be a teen or adult who will lead kids back to the EdgeKidz room.

Nursery Team

  • Adult Caregiver: This person oversees the group of babies and toddlers, making sure needs are met (snack, diaper change, etc.)

  • Assistant: This can be a teen or adult who helps care for the children in the Nursery. Tweens (ages 11 and 12) may not pick up children, but can play with and entertain them.

Preschool Team

  • Teacher: This adult or older teen teaches the Bible lesson, oversees activities, and manages the environment in the Preschool room.*

  • Assistant: This adult or older teen supports the teacher by helping children focus and transition to different areas of the room.

EdgeKidz School-age Team

  • Teacher: This adult oversees the entire group and teaches the Bible lesson.*

  • Support Team:

    • Small Group Leaders: After the large-group lesson, students break into smaller groups by age-level, with one leader for age group. These levels are by grade: K/1st; 2nd/3rd, and 4th/5th. These leaders will review the Bible lesson, guide the kids in verse memorization, pray with them, and as time allows lead them in an activity.*

    • Large-group Support: A small group leader may be designated as the leader of the large-group opening activity or as the “Host” who interacts with the Bible story leader.

*All lessons are prepared by the CM Director—printed, photocopied, and props set up. Teachers will receive the lesson by email prior to the Sunday they serve and given a printed copy on that Sunday.
