Children’s Ministry Director

The Position:

The Children’s Ministry Director will oversee all efforts to minister to children (Nursery through 5th grade) at Edgewood and the broader community.

The ideal candidate has significant experience ministering to children and parents, as well as experience managing volunteers. The role requires a person who relates well with people of different ages and backgrounds.

As a 40 hour/week employee whose main responsibility is Sundays, this position has four Sundays (weeks) of vacation per year. This job could also be shared with the Director at 25/30 hours and an assistant at 10/15 hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain our current security system that protects children in our church’s care.

  • Recruit, develop, train, and schedule children’s ministry volunteers for Sunday mornings and special events.

  • Oversee, plan, and prep for lessons weekly, including emailing the lessons to volunteers, using our current curriculum called Orange.

  • Provide support to the EdgeMoms group. (Meets once per month at church on a weekday morning.)

  • Schedule all volunteers for the Nursery, Preschool, and EdgeKidz Sunday morning ministries.

  • Communicate with maintenance staff for cleaning of EdgeKidz rooms.

  • Oversee and/or plan special events related to children and families, including VBS and other potential events. Keep the EdgeKidz Facebook page updated.

  • Arrange childcare for occasional church meetings/classes as needed.

  • Maintain the integrity of the children’s Bible teaching time by ensuring the instruction is consistent with the doctrinal convictions, the vision, and the values of the church.

  • Identify potential ministry and missions opportunities for children to participate in.

  • Develop an annual budget for the children’s ministry and operate within the constraints of that budget.

  • Attend all staff meetings (currently held weekly at 10:00 on Tuesdays).

Requirements:

  • Willingness to become an official member of Edgewood Church.

  • Education and/or experience in ministry to children preferred

  • A desire to teach and mentor children in biblical truth.

  • A growing Christian faith and character.

  • Ability to pass a background check.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the church.

  • A lifestyle congruent with the biblical requirements for leaders.
