What Does It Mean to Rebuild Together? PT. 2

– Pastor Daria Roesch

As Doug shared in his message from 2 Kings 12, (given on September 20), there is biblical precedence for repairing the building (the temple) that is used to worship and serve God.

Edgewood Church is our home where we worship and serve God. We do this in answer to Jesus’ “Great Commission:”

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matt. 28:18-20).

Edgewood’s vision is “to be a welcoming place for all people to know Jesus and grow as a community that reflects His love to the world.”

When we invite people into our homes, we make sure they’re clean and tidy and comfortable. We desire to do the same when we have visitors in our church home. An important way to help people feel comfortable is to have working A/C in the summer and heat in the winter. As you know, providing heat has sometimes been a challenge. This may seem utilitarian and unspiritual, but it’s actually a form of hospitality and hospitality is a biblical mandate (see Acts 28:7, Romans 12:13; 16:23, 1 Timothy 5:10, Hebrews 13:2, 1 Peter 4:9, 3 John 1:8).

In this sense, “Rebuilding Together” is kingdom work. We are making our church a place that welcomes those who need to hear about Jesus and learn how much he loves them.
