What Can One Person Do?
I personally feel ill equipped to take on the fight against human trafficking. It is a difficult topic with no easy solution but it IS a reality here in the Rochester area. The scriptures tell us that we are to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves, but what can one person do?
The factors that put a person at risk of becoming a victim of human trafficking may include food insecurity, joblessness, inadequate housing, addiction or an unstable home. What can one person do?
As part of our Set Free Rochester team, Edgewood Church is partnering with World Relief to help meet the needs for immigrant families arriving in our community. Through their Good Neighbor Program one person can make a difference by acting as a good neighbor. Support and training are offered to help make a difference by providing encouragement as a person learns the English language. One person can provide a ride from the airport to a new home (which has been set up and stocked by others). One person can provide the support of a friend at a lonely time. These types of support reduce the risk of being victimized as the immigrant becomes acclimated to a new culture. Edgewood will be exploring the possibilities for individual involvement during the month of January 2024 as we focus as a church on the Set Free movement.
I hope you will begin to pray and consider your involvement as a Good Neighbor. One person can make a difference.
